Analysis of variance, means and standard errors (SE) are shown for total cortical area (TCA), aerenchyma area (AA), percent aerenchyma (%AA), living cortical area (LCA), total stele area (TSA), number of late-metaxylem vessels (MXV), median area of the late-metaxylem vessels (MXA), and water conductance (WC) measured at 5, 10 and 15 cm from the root apex and at 1 cm from the root base. Letters indicate significant differences among axial positions by the least significant difference (LSD) test (P < 0.05)
